how to change batteries in a White-Rodgers 1F97-1277 Programmable 1 Heat/1 Cool Thermostat?

i have a thermostat on the wall and trying to figure out how to take front cover off to change batteries.. please help... its getting hot
There should be a push tab on the top or bottom.
Push this in and pull on the thermostat. It should separate from its sub-base.
There should be two tabs (or "fingers") on one side that hook into the base, the othr side
