nissan engine vs. honda engine or other import engines in general?

i was wondering why does a nissan engine (1.8L) have like 122 hp while the honda engine (1.8L) have like 140 hp and have about the same MPG? why didnt nissan make more hp out of the engine like honda did?? why so little of hp coming out of the nissan

well if you look at it this way, the 2.5 c25a v6 from the legends only put out 151hp compared to the ka24de 2.4 inline 4 put out 155hp, or lets compare it to the sr20det 2.0 inline 4 puts out 205. quite a difference isnt it. it all comes down to the
