2006 Mercedes Benz SLK 350 - Will I need to purchase a navigation system?

I just bought a “what I thought” fully loaded 2006 Mercedes Benz SLK 350. It turns out that the vehicle does not have a navigation system; however, it displays all the necessary navigation buttons. Every time I try using the system I get this message

If you want to install the Benz unit that integrates into the centre console COMAND unit, you need to install the DVD navigation module kit. It is a dealer installed option but it is pricey ( over $2G's ).
