what is fuse holder in car audio and what it do?

i wonder what the fuse holder is.
i saw some pics of it on google, and its like a little capsule that we put between battery and power in some place around battery area under the hood.
i want to know what it exactly do..

it's protection for the wire, and in turn, your car.

Every electrical circuit in your car (and house for that matter) is protected with either a fuse or a circuit breaker.
