Why do American Muscle Cars like the 2008 Ford Shelby GT500 that is fast but, don't have the suspension.?

I love American Muscle Cars to death but, but why do muscle cars got the speed don't have the traction to go up against the european cars in a track race instead of just the drag strip like; AMG Benz SL65, Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, Audi, Mercedes,
Most of the European cars hook better because they weigha lot more than the American cars. For example a 04 Corvette Z06 weighs 3100 lbs while on 04 Mercedes SL 55 AMG weighs 4400lbs. When you have a lot more weight it will handle better, but it isn't
