I do the research to try to figure out what the price should be (there is a good "Prices Paid for ..." discussion board out there, and go to the dealer and try to get the car for that. I don't agonize if I find out I paid three or four hundred too much; I'm not going to remember that in a year, and I don't have time or inclination to visit multiple dealers or revisiting to haggle.
Yes, I know it's "dumb" to buy a new car; the convenience and warranty are worth it to me.
And it's "dumb" to trade in a car. Except I only have one car with no extra parking options, so to try to coincide a sale--nah. Plus, I don't want to hassle with being Car Dealer and having to deal with strangers test driving it, etc.
Call me lazy, but I think we tend to obsess over purchase of a car and whether we got "ripped off" in a way we don't for other purchases. Plus, it doesn't kill me that the salesman and the dealer make some money on the deal; the markups and margins are not as as high as people think.
